It's run by using an accurate quartz motion with a pendulum that transfers about thrice per 2nd however almost without sound. There are two chimes to make a choice from and they have each a volume control and a nap mode that will only "sleep" or go silent for 8 hours, however you may regulate when the 8 hours commence. You may also opt for no chime in case you make a selection
One note, I learn on the product description that the clock was powered through two AA batteries, this is unsuitable, the clock wants two C size batteries, no large deal, but if you happen to buy it, you are going to want the C (alkaline) batteries to make it go.
